PECAA is pleased to announce its next ABO virtual education event: Optical Spectrum: From Disabilities To Diopters. Taking place on Sunday, November 2nd, 11:00 am – 5:45 pm ET this event offers six (6) hours of ABO-approved continuing education to opticians and optical staff across the country and will be presented in a synchronous, virtual webinar format.
Each PECAA education event provides impactful instruction on a targeted area relevant to contemporary eye care practice. This event will explore the full spectrum of optical care — from the physics of light to the practicalities of inclusive patient engagement. Topics will include blue light: what we know, what we don’t and how to guide patients, how the brain interprets vision and why illusions work, understanding effective and compensated lens power, inclusive dispensing for patients with disabilities, communicating myopia management to parents and children and strategies for serving patients on the autism spectrum.
Optical Spectrum: From Disabilities To Diopters is open to all optical staff nationwide, including PECAA Max members, HEA Advantage Members, non-members, and those who do not need ABO Credits. PECAA Propel members are also invited to join us. We look forward to welcoming you and your team members to this engaging and educational event.

11:05 – 11:55 am — What We Know — And Don’t Know — About Blue Light
Speaker: Kelly Rosemann, ABOC ABO CE Hours: 1 — Course Level: ABO Technical II Description: Evidence-based guidelines for recommending blue light filtration for your patients. In recent years, high-energy visible (HEV) blue light has been one of the most talked-about topics in eye care. Much of this emphasis on blue light has grown from concerns about potential harmful ocular effects of extensive and sustained use of computers and other digital devices that have luminous LED displays. In this course we will address these concerns from three perspectives: What is it blue light and why are we talking about it? What science-based evidence is there to support claims? What claims are based on speculation and still under debate?
